The Climate and Health Program (CLIMA) of the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) has developed a prototype climate service of temperature-attributable mortality for Europe. This unified pan-European service can be adapted to all European societies by using daily meteorological and mortality data to account for the regional differences in human vulnerability and societal adaptation to climate variability and change. The development of this epidemiological surveillance tool is aimed at contributing to a better monitoring and forecasting system of temperature-related health risks. The system will provide more realistic warnings, raising awareness and support public health management and decision making. This is one of the case studies of the European Blue Action Project.
