Breu explicació del projecte / Brief explanation of your project

The emission of greenhouse gases (GHGs), especially carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide, is the major source of global warming and climate change. For an accurate spatial control of these emissions, large number of ubiquitous sensing systems need to be installed and connected, benefitting from Internet of Things (IoT).
The present project addresses the development, fabrication and testing of surface plasmon resonance based gas sensors, made from advanced 2D materials, like MoS2 and WS2, and suitable for IoT. The response pattern of these gas sensors will be fine-tuned through functionalisation via metal or metal oxide nanoparticles. The integration of different sensors will give rise to an electronic nose, which present advantages over standard devices, especially in terms of miniaturization, low power and selectivity. The developed systems will be tested towards GHGs and will be benchmarked against environmental reference stations.
