Breu explicació del projecte / Brief explanation of your project

Early adolescence is a time of major mental, physical and social changes. The ERC-funded LEAD project will focus on supporting the development of young adolescents in low-resource settings. In 2015, 2 500 preschoolers participated in a trial evaluating quality preschool education in Ghana. LEAD will now re-randomise this sample (now aged ~12 years) to test a parenting skills programme to enhance early adolescent development. The children and their parents will be interviewed when the children are 13, 15 and 17 years old to measure children’s social-emotional and academic skills, health (including stress), and adult-life transitions. This data will allow testing dynamic complementarities between interventions during early childhood and early adolescence, or whether interventions in adolescence might compensate for earlier adversity.
