Breu explicació del projecte / Brief explanation of your project
Human beings are getting exposed to multiple environmental chemicals through exposure from daily usage items like food packaging, cosmetics, non-stick pans, textile, paint, ski wax, firefighting foams etc. These chemicals contaminate the environment because some of them do not degrade and stay in the natural surroundings such as water bodies and soil for years. As the natural resources get contaminated, there will be also an adverse effect on human health considering the chronic exposure to these contaminants. Over years, multiple studies have mapped a link between chemical exposure and its impact on brain, liver, kidney, heart, and reproductive organ toxicity. Right now, animal as well as in-vitro studies, are being done for qualitative and quantitative assessment of toxicity. The aim of this project is to reduce animal dependence for testing and bring innovation in chemical risk assessment with the use of the recent surge in data and technology advancement. This enables the sustainable use of chemicals, protection of human health, and the environment through better and earlier identification of harmful chemicals. This project begins with the preliminary idea of filling data gaps to create a well-connected knowledge base for toxicological assessment.
