Breu explicació del projecte / Brief explanation of your project
Toxins/pollutants such as tetrodotoxin- a potent neurotoxin, or perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) substances pose a threat to human life affecting neuronal signaling in short and long term, respectively. A portable biosensor especially made of eukaryotic cells, is a viable option to readily detect the effect of toxins by assessing cell viability and induced stress markers [1]. The objective of the current work is to develop a whole cell biosensor for the detection of such toxins. For this purpose, initially rat neuroblastoma and eukaryotic algal cell lines were cultured or immobilized on electrodes so that they can be interrogated with different electrochemical methods.
